The Fifth Annual Wings Over Water Festival is scheduled for Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30 at Harns Marsh.
The Lee County Mosquito Control District will have an educational station at the event on January 30, 2016 from 9 AM to 2 PM.
The two-day festival helps celebrate southwest Florida’s natural resources and includes an array of programs on local waterways and wildlife from Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30. It aims to encourage the public to get outdoors and celebrate healthy living while discovering the beauty of southwest Florida’s water, land and wildlife.
Harns Marsh is a natural gem in Lehigh Acres. In the early 1980’s, Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District (LA-MSID), formerly ECWCD, transformed the 578-acre parcel, which was in large part vacant farmland, into an active stormwater facility helping to filter water and reduce flooding to the Orange River. These water management tools have helped create a lush habitat for more than 160 species of animals and provides an exciting opportunity for individuals to explore our native wildlife. Harns Marsh is a wonderful location for students to learn about the water, land and wildlife that makes southwest Florida’s natural environment so special. This is a natural area, so there are no permanent water fountains, pavilions or permanent restroom facilities.
The abundance of wildlife at Harns Marsh creates an exciting opportunity for individuals to explore the beauty of southwest Florida from birding, to fishing and hiking. The nature festival helps LA-MSID and its partners to educate visitors and residents about the vital role water quality and conservation plays in keeping our community and environment safe.
